Mama Rose is determined that her younger daughter June will have a successful career, but after June elopes, Mama turns all her attention on her older, less talented daughter, Louise, who eventually becomes a burlesque stripper named Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy has been referred to as the greatest American musical by numerous critics and contains many songs that became popular standards, including Small World, Everything's Coming up Roses and Let Me Entertain You. This musical is considered one of the crowning achievements of the mid-twentieth century's musical theatre art forms. |
