You will learn the history involved with the original surfboard by immersing yourself into the origins of the alaia. Creating a solid wooden board with nearly all hand tools will teach you many aspects of woodworking, like how to use handplanes, jigsaws, and sanders. You will also learn some basics of surfboard shaping, including the measurements and layout of your surfboard blank, and how to stick to your board plan. By the end of the class, you will walk away with a board you build with your own two hands and an understanding of what goes into making a surfboard function properly in the ocean. No prior knowledge is required, just a sense of adventure to have fun! Pre-registration is required by October 11, 2017. Register by calling 609-296-8868 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
